A top 50 course in the United States, The Essex County Club dates back to 1893. When the club opened that year, it was the proud owner of the first 9-hole course in New England. The five founding members of the United States Golf Association (1894) – St Andrews, Newport, Shinnecock Hills, Chicago and the Country Club in Brookline – gradually began to invite other clubs to join and so the Essex County Club became the sixth member of the USGA. Darius Oliver, in this short extract from the book Planet Golf USA, writes: “Essex is a wonderful old golf club and in its rugged, natural state perhaps best reflects how the architect himself would have preferred his most famous courses to remain. With the exception of his work at Pinehurst, Ross probably spent more time personally working on these holes than at any other course he designed. Despite its low profile, those who can tolerate the bouncy fairways, wild greens and uneven lies will rejoice at having discovered one of golf’s truly hidden gems.” Host to the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 1897 and 1912, the Essex County Club has been out of the limelight for almost 100 years. But that changed in June 2010 when the club proudly hosted the Curtis Cup. This item is for an accompanied round of golf for three at Essex Country Club. It also includes a one night stay, in three rooms, at the club the night before your round.

A note from American Junior Golf Association: The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. We are raising money to support junior golfers who lack the financial resources to compete in national golf events. All funds raised from this auction will be used to provide scholarships allowing these juniors and their families to get reimbursed for travel related expenses, tournament fees, equipment, and other expenses related to being competitive. The AJGA hosts 140 tournaments a year and college coaches, equipment suppliers, and sponsors are invited to each event giving these juniors a chance to display their skills and earn college scholarships. Every dollar raised through this auction will go directly back to the juniors and our Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant. Tax receipts will be sent to the winning bidder. Questions can be directed to the AJGA by emailing hwaits@ajga.org.

Item delivery: After you've paid for any auction items that you've won, the event organizer will contact you to coordinate delivery.
